It’s a Trap! No, it’s just a flying baby.

Things have been very busy in my world lately. The photography biz has been booming since late-September. We’ve been having sessions almost every weekend, which has left me drained from writing any new material. I do, however, have something very neat to share this evening.

About a month ago I did a special session for a friend of mine. He and his wife had had their first baby, and asked me to take some pictures for them. At the time, he was a mere 6 weeks old. Such a little tyke. Well, the resulting photos made another two friends reach out and ask for pictures of their 3 month old daughter. Their request, though, was a tad more specific…

The nice thing about the internet is that you can get really neat ideas from people. I don’t just mean photo ideas, but anything: music, fashion, design… you name it, the internet has ideas about it. These ideas, specifically one idea in particular, was the “tad more specific”: a flying baby portait.

All the rage these days is getting children to do silly things in pictures while they’re very young. Our friends wanted one of these silly pictures. The inspiration? The picture described on this website: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/how-to-make-your-baby-fly-petapixel-166730. Needless to say, I had never done anything like this before. Heck, I’ll admit it, my photo editing skills are no where near a super pro level, so I was even a little skeptical that I could pull this off! Thankfully, I have an encouraging wife and friends… and, well… we did it.

This is their daughter Leia (hence the title of this post), floating above her crib with several of her toys. Yes, that is an Angry Bird you see there. The editing was tricky, but it came out better then I had hoped. And, most importantly, my friends were thrilled with it. Now they have a unique memory to show their lovely daughter as she grows older. Hopefully she won’t question their parenting skills… but if they do, they could just blame us. The crazy photographer and his wife who came over one weekend in the year 2012…
